As some (or all of you) may know, we here at SILP have been absolutely delighted in the the newest shorts released by the official Pokemon YouTube channel. Each episode is somewhere between 3 and 5 minutes in length. So far, I've got to say, I've been enthralled in the fast moving chronicles. With a new episode releasing every Friday on YouTube, it's like adding another log onto the proverbial fire that is the now renewed Pokemon fever sweeping the globe.

Episode one starts out with us seeing opening to the classic Pokemon games. After the video selects a game save file, it shows the trainer sprite walking through a patch of tall grass in Viridian Forest only to encounter a Pikachu. Upon capture, the video transitions to a full scale anime in the same style as the Origins series. From there, the trainer- presumably a variation of Trainer Red- travels to several famous locations in the other regions of the Pokemon World including: - The Weather Institute (Hoenn)

- Relic Castle (Unova)

- Snowpoint Temple (Sinnoh)

- Terminus Cave (Kalos)

The duo also encounter several legendary Pokemon in reference to the games. I won't spoil it completely for you but, see for yourself!

Each episode takes a different turn and aren't really directly sequenced. Episode two shows a Pokemon detective trying to track down Team Rocket head honcho, Giovanni. This one has a very different feel to it. It's dark and mysterious, but still keeps true to the Pokemon franchise. I dig that it shows the cooperation between Pokemon and law enforcement. This is also one of the few episodes in which there is another police type presence other than Officer Jenny. This shows us that the Pokemon World DOES have more serious issues than just Ash Ketchum's soul searching.

EPISODE 2: The Chase

The third, and most recent episode shows everyone's favorite rival advancing through the Pokemon League in Kanto, only to met at the end by Trainer Red. Again, this episode is way more serious than any of the mainstream Ash Ketchum adventures we've viewed throughout our youth. My guess is that The Pokemon Company is trying to make a play on the fact that the original audience of Pokemon (Viewers/Players from 1998) are now in their 20's and watching more serious fighting style animes like Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online. Even the battle sequences, while short, are immensely action packed. The blows Pokemon deal and receive seem MUCH harder and less G audience centered. We are loving it!
