2017 Chicago Pokemon GO Fest Update

Ok. So. They cancelled the legendary raid tonight. Every ticket is being refunded. They Unlocked all the worldwide bonuses. Extended the rare catches (unown and Heracross) to a 2km radius of Grant Park. They gave us $100 worth of pokecoins (14500? I think..) then everyone that registered at the event is getting a legendary deposited to their account. There's a bunch of other events in the city happening too so, it wasn't the plan-but we still got a good haul! Plus tons of free swag and badges and stuff. I also met John Hanke! (CEO of Niantic)

Also, my game came up long enough to catch a shiny magikarp in the Mystic Lounge. Not very good stats- but it's a first! When I used the spinner on the Mystic Lounge's gym, I also got the "Mystic Lounge" gym badge, so that's pretty cool.

It was a let down for some. However, in my experience- things were A LOT better outside the park. People were playing ALL OVER Chicago. People just...everywhere. There's a gym right outside our hotel that has been popping up Articuno and Lugia raid bosses also...which they gave us a 24 hour auto-catch for. We've taken the elevator down so many times the front desk is probably confused. So far, there have been some disappointments, but overall- I'm satisfied. We only drove 4 hours and we've gained a lot of cool promos, gifts, experiences, and acquaintances. Here are some shots of us playing from our hotel room.
